Elementary/Middle School Counselor
Job Summary
Provides a full range of professional student services, including group and individual counseling activities/behavior modifications, to assist students in their development of academic and social skills; also provides consultation services to parents and school staff to assist in the identification of the needs of children, to prevent and resolve problems and conflicts, and to promote an understanding of children’s strengths, weakness, limitations, and behaviors.
Education And Experience
Master’s Degree in school counseling
Qualifications ? Conduct individual and group sessions with referred students. ? Provide consultation services to teachers. ? Maintain confidentiality of information associated with position. ? Attend conferences and training as they relate to job knowledge and performance. ? Perform the essential functions and requirements of the job, and ? Meet satisfactory health standards. ? Conduct Functional Behavior Analysis (FBA) and develop Behavior Improvement Plans (BIP) on referred students.
Essential Functions School Counselor: ? Develops and provides an effective comprehensive school counseling program to serve the needs of all students. ? Demonstrates knowledge of national and state school counseling standards. ? Collects, analyzes, and uses data to develop, implement, and evaluate the school counseling program. ? Provides individual and group counseling for students. ? Conducts classroom guidance activities for each class. ? Maintains accurate and appropriate records. ? Initiates awareness activities (e.g. drug/tobacco, bullying, career) within the school. ? Participates in faculty committees and student activities. ? Participates actively as a coordinator/member of the Student Support Team. ? Assists with the coordination of standardized testing. ? Advise and schedule students in appropriate courses. (Middle School level only). ? 504 School Level Coordinator.

? Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal or District Administrator. Physical Abilities This position requires lifting of objects not to exceed 25 pounds without assistance and the wearing of a safety support belt and frequent lifting and/or carrying objects that weigh 10 pounds or more. Other physical abilities that may be required are: 1. Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. 2. Seeing 3. Walking 4. Reaching, handling, and/or feeling. 5. Talking and/or hearing.
